Welcome to McLean Forge and Welding. Established in 1984, Boulder’s oldest and most experienced welding shop has been locally owned and operated by Barrie McLean for over 23 years. Often referred to as the “Iron Man”, Barrie and his team specialize in custom artistic metal work and steel fabrication and repair. Working with contractors, interior designers and architects as well as individuals, our goal is to take your ideas and make them reality. All the photos here are of work that has been done locally. Our intention is to give you a feel for the extent of the possibilities while encouraging you to create your own custom ideas.
Featured Project: Indoor Railings
The specific rustic finish on this indoor forged railing was accomplished to meet the homeowner‘s wishes. The extensiveness and intricacy of this project did not deter us from being able to meet the customer’s time requirements and keep them on schedule for their final inspection.

This fence and driveway gates were installed at an historic landmark home. The home had existing ironwork from the first part of the last century. Our capability to do restoration and match existing iron work created the functionality desired by the homeowner without compromising historic value.

Our sculpture line started with a kokopelli design requested by a long time valued customer. Thus, the kokopelli was the first sculpture created and has been the highlight of our southwestern theme. The sculpture line has evolved over the years into over 150 designs, many originating from customers' requests.

With our portable welding truck, we are able to take on projects and repairs onsite saving time, hassle and money. We are fully equipped and mobile making it possible to meet almost any general steel fabrication need or repair that is deemed implausible to transport to the shop.
Featured Project: Cable Railings
This south Denver home features interior as well as exterior cable railings. The project originally was for interior railings only, but with the total satisfaction of the customer, the exterior railing project was commissioned. Providing the same quality workmanship, we replaced the dated wooden railings with the contemporary cable railings and were able to significantly open up the patio and back yard.

Wrought iron home accessories all begin with a custom design. Many of the favorites are duplicated and new ideas are always exciting. Regardless, each piece is unique since all are hand created. The textures and finishes are many and each piece is functional art.
